UPDATE: Flight cancellations are wreaking havoc on U.S. travel for the third straight day, with more than 2,200 flights canceled and over 7,500 delayed as of Sunday, November 5, 2023. This ongoing disruption is raising alarms among travelers and industry experts alike, just as millions prepare to take to the skies for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Travelers at Fresno Yosemite Airport report no delays or cancellations, but the situation has travel agents on high alert. Cathyrn Doty, from Not Your Evil Stepmother’s Vacation Planner, stated, “That is one of the first things that I do every morning—monitoring the cancellations. I have clients traveling, so I need to ensure I’m prepared for any changes.”

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, AAA has indicated that Tuesday, November 7, Wednesday, November 8, and the following Sunday will be peak travel days. AAA spokesman Doug Johnson emphasized the need for flexibility, noting, “With the ongoing government shutdown, travelers must be ready for delays and sudden flight changes.”

Travel experts advise passengers to remain adaptable and stay informed as the situation evolves. Many are turning to apps like FlightAware to track disruptions in real-time.

The impact of these cancellations is palpable, affecting not just travel plans, but also the emotional well-being of families eager to reunite during the holidays. With the travel landscape shifting rapidly, it is crucial for travelers to stay connected and be proactive in managing their itineraries.
