Former UFC Star BJ Penn Arrested Again for Assault in Hawaii
UPDATE: Former UFC champion BJ Penn has been arrested and charged with third-degree assault on Tuesday, marking his sixth arrest of 2025. Police report that Penn, aged 46, was taken into custody at 11:50 a.m. without incident, following an assault incident that occurred at a residence in Hilo, Hawaii, earlier that day.
Authorities responded to a call at 1 a.m. regarding an alleged assault. The victim, a 45-year-old man, claims Penn punched and kicked him multiple times, leading to injuries that required medical treatment. After posting $1,000 bail, Penn is set to appear in court for the assault charge on December 2.
Conviction on a third-degree assault charge in Hawaii can result in up to one year in jail, emphasizing the serious nature of this latest incident. This arrest is part of a troubling pattern for Penn, who has faced multiple legal issues this year. In a recent court order, he was mandated to undergo a mental health evaluation, with a follow-up court appearance scheduled for January.
Penn’s ongoing struggles have reportedly stemmed from his belief that “imposters” have taken over his family. His mother, Lorraine Shin, was granted a protection order against him earlier this year after alleging domestic abuse. Earlier this year, Penn publicly urged the Hilo Police Department to investigate what he claimed were the murders of his family members, alleging that “fake frauds” were attempting to steal from him.
Once a celebrated mixed martial arts fighter, Penn’s career ended in 2019 after a disheartening seven-fight losing streak, during which he faced three knockout losses. As the latest developments unfold, the community watches closely, concerned about the impacts of his behavior on both his life and those around him.
Stay tuned for updates as this situation develops, and watch for Penn’s upcoming court appearances. The legal implications of his actions could have lasting effects on his future and mental health.
