Indiana Awards $42M in Recycling Grants; PNW License Plate Launches

JUST ANNOUNCED: Indiana has awarded a staggering $42 million in grants to enhance recycling efforts across the state. Among the beneficiaries is Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc., which will receive $301,011 to divert an impressive 32,812 tons of recyclable materials from landfills annually.

This monumental funding initiative, confirmed by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, is expected to create 42 jobs and prevent approximately 197,884 tons of waste from ending up in landfills each year. Other notable recipients include CT Polymers, Greencycle, and Nexus IN RNG, each receiving significant funds to bolster Indiana’s recycling infrastructure.

In a separate development, Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is set to launch a new specialty license plate in January 2026. The plate will feature PNW’s gold and black colors, allowing Indiana residents to showcase their school pride while contributing to scholarships for PNW students. A $40 group license plate fee will apply, with $25 going directly to support student scholarships.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marrium Siddiqui, an infectious disease physician, has joined the Franciscan Physician Network and is now accepting new patients in Crown Point. Dr. Siddiqui brings extensive expertise, having completed her fellowship in infectious diseases at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Patients can reach the Franciscan Physician Network Specialty Center at 219-769-8340 for appointments.

In addition, Indiana Dunes Tourism is launching a $50,000 grant program aimed at funding community projects that attract visitors to Porter County. The application deadline is set for December 1, 2025, with winners announced on January 5, 2026.

With the Northwest Indiana Influential Women Association gearing up for its next mentoring cohort, applications are now open until December 3, 2025. This program is designed to empower emerging female leaders through mentorship and professional development.
