Lake County GOP Chair Accuses Teacher of Inappropriate Behavior
URGENT UPDATE: Lake County Republican Chair Keith Brin has raised serious allegations against a teacher at Highland Park High School, claiming a pattern of “inappropriate behavior” that endangers students. During a heated address to the Township High School District 113 Board of Education on October 24, 2023, Brin condemned district leaders for permitting the teacher’s return to the classroom despite multiple complaints.
Brin asserted that his remarks were independent of his political role, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. A relative of Brin, who is a student at the school, experienced what he described as “verbal harassment” and inappropriate touching by the teacher. He disclosed that the teacher had previously shown an “inappropriate film” during class, raising significant concerns among parents and students alike.
An internal investigation reportedly confirmed incidents where the teacher massaged a student’s hand and screened an inappropriate film, yet the district allowed the teacher to resume classroom duties. A Freedom of Information Act request for further details on the investigation remains unanswered.
In a strong rebuke, Brin stated, “Shame on this district for putting kids in danger. Allowing someone with this record of behavior back into a classroom with minors sends a message that student safety is negotiable.”
The district has refrained from discussing personnel matters, with a spokesperson confirming the policy against commenting on specific situations. The teacher has yet to respond to requests for comment.
Adding to the tension, a student who addressed the board echoed Brin’s concerns, claiming to be among several students subjected to verbal harassment. They urged the district to take decisive action, stating, “Our voices, comfort, and boundaries come second to convenience.”
As parents and community members rally for accountability, the district faces mounting pressure to clarify its stance on student safety. With calls for transparency growing louder, all eyes are now on District 113 as they navigate this troubling situation.
What happens next remains uncertain, but the implications for student safety and district policies are profound. This developing story is one that parents and community members will be following closely in the days ahead.
