LEGO Unveils Historic F1 Trophy During British GP; Hulkenberg Thrilled
UPDATE: In a groundbreaking moment for Formula 1, driver Nico Hulkenberg received the first-ever trophy made entirely from LEGO elements following his third-place finish at the British Grand Prix on July 9, 2025. This unique award, standing over 16 inches tall, features red and blue detailing inspired by the historic Royal Automobile Club trophy first presented in 1905.
The LEGO trophy presentation at Silverstone marks a significant expansion of LEGO’s partnership with Formula 1, which began in September 2024. Just months prior, during the Miami Grand Prix, F1 stars drove 10 fully drivable LEGO cars, showcasing the brand’s creativity and commitment to engaging fans. These life-size builds required 26 specialists working a staggering 22,000 hours and utilized 400,000 LEGO bricks each, weighing nearly 1,500 kg.
Hulkenberg expressed his excitement about lifting the LEGO trophy, calling the moment “super special” and reflective of unforgettable memories. “It was truly amazing for us to come away with it,” he said. He added, “It was fitting that I achieved the podium when the LEGO trophies were handed out.” The German driver, a lifelong LEGO enthusiast, noted the importance of creativity and learning through play, especially as he shares this passion with his four-year-old daughter.
LEGO’s involvement in Formula 1 has been transformative, aimed at making the sport more accessible to families and younger audiences. The company’s presence is felt at 21 races worldwide, featuring engaging fan experiences like LEGO Fan Zones and LEGO Pit Shops.
As the F1 season progresses, Hulkenberg is optimistic about the remaining races. “We’re very much in a fight in the championship,” he stated. “It’s focus, work, optimize and maximize every opportunity we get.”
With the momentum of the LEGO partnership, fans can expect more exciting initiatives. You can watch the remaining 2025 F1 races online through ESPN, and explore LEGO’s extensive line of F1 sets to bring the racing experience home.
For those interested, the LEGO Formula 1 series includes a replica of Hulkenberg’s F1 Kick Sauber car and various sets catering to all ages. The LEGO Speed Champions Ultimate Formula 1 Collector’s Pack offers an authentic F1 experience with all ten racing teams included.
This collaboration is reshaping the future of F1 and LEGO, and fans are eager to see how it continues to evolve. The excitement surrounding this partnership is palpable, making LEGO’s presence at F1 races an integral part of the fan experience.
