UPDATE: The race for New Jersey’s next governor is heating up as new polls reveal a tight contest between Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli. With early voting turnout already at nearly 15%, both candidates are scrambling to secure the undecided votes that could determine the outcome.

As of now, Democrats hold a significant advantage with a nearly 230,000 vote lead in early voting, but the independent voter bloc, which has cast approximately 165,000 votes—nearly 20% of total ballots—remains a critical wildcard. Polls show Sherrill leading among women and independents, but Ciattarelli has been aggressively closing the gap in the final stretch of the campaign.

New polling data released indicates Sherrill holds an 8-point lead according to Quinnipiac University, with figures at 51% to 43% for Ciattarelli. However, Suffolk University’s poll shows a tighter race, with Sherrill leading by just 4 points, at 46% to 42%, which falls within the margin of error. An Emerson College poll suggests a near tie, with Sherrill leading 49% to 48%—a difference of fewer than 50,000 votes.

As we approach Election Day, the focus sharpens on the crucial role of independent voters and women, who may ultimately decide the election. With both candidates having yet to solidify a clear pathway to victory, the final days leading up to the election will be pivotal.
