UPDATE: In a stunning repeat performance, Pat Murphy has been named the NL Manager of the Year for the second consecutive season, as confirmed by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America late Tuesday night. Murphy garnered an impressive 27 of 30 first-place votes, decisively outpacing competitors Rob Thomson of the Philadelphia Phillies and Terry Francona of the Cincinnati Reds.

This announcement holds significant weight, marking the first back-to-back wins for an NL manager since Bobby Cox achieved this feat with the Atlanta Braves in 2004 and 2005. Murphy’s leadership propelled the Milwaukee Brewers to a franchise-record 97-65 season, showcasing a remarkable turnaround that saw the team surge from the second spot in the NL Central to overtaking the Chicago Cubs with a phenomenal 29-4 stretch that included a record-setting 14-game winning streak.

Murphy, who is set to turn 67 on November 28, was previously Milwaukee’s bench coach for eight seasons before stepping into the managerial role following Craig Counsell‘s departure for the Cubs. His impactful first season saw the Brewers secure the NL Central title with a 93-69 record.

The Brewers’ season was historic, culminating in a thrilling postseason where they eliminated the Cubs in a memorable NL Division Series, marking their first series win since sweeping the Colorado Rockies in the 2018 NLDS. However, their playoff run ended in the NL Championship Series after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As the baseball world turns to the remaining MLB awards, the finalists for the AL Manager of the Year include Steven Vogt of Cleveland, John Schneider of Toronto, and Dan Wilson of Seattle. Thomson led the Phillies to a 96-66 record and a second straight NL East title, while Francona‘s leadership guided the Reds to their first playoff appearance since 2020.

The excitement continues as the Cy Young Award winners for each league will be announced on Wednesday, and the MVPs will be revealed on Thursday. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how these developments unfold in the coming days, as the Brewers and Murphy bask in the glow of their achievements.
