URGENT UPDATE: The Pope John Paul II High School Legacy of Impact Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for November 14, 2025, at 7 p.m. This highly anticipated event will honor transformative figures in the community, including legendary coach Jim Shaffer, the celebrated 1976 Bishop Kenrick High School basketball team, and esteemed coach Charles McPherson.

This year’s inductees reflect not only athletic excellence but also profound contributions to the local community. The ceremony, taking place at the school’s auditorium, promises to evoke heartfelt memories and celebrate the lasting impacts of these remarkable individuals.

Jim Shaffer, former coach of Archbishop Kennedy High School’s boys’ basketball team, is recognized for his leadership and mentorship. Under his guidance, the team clinched multiple titles, including a Bicentennial League championship. More than just a coach, Shaffer was instrumental in establishing the AMBUCS Stars Special Olympics team in Montgomery County in 1988, demonstrating his commitment to inclusivity in sports.

The 1976 Bishop Kenrick High School boys’ basketball team will also be celebrated for their Cinderella story, overcoming the odds to win the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship against West Catholic. Their thrilling victory, marked by teamwork and determination, continues to inspire young athletes today.

Additionally, Charles McPherson, affectionately known as “Mr. Mac,” will be honored for his extensive contributions to the Norristown community through sports and mentorship. His legacy includes founding youth programs and serving as a dedicated coach across multiple sports, positively influencing generations.

The induction ceremony will also recognize Alyssa Neilson Borzillo, a standout from the class of 2006; Rick Keeley, from the class of 1971; and educator Douglas T. Dunn. Each of these individuals has made significant strides in shaping the lives of students and athletes alike.

The reception will begin at 6 p.m., allowing attendees to connect and reminisce before the awards ceremony. This event is expected to draw a large crowd, celebrating the legacy of those who have significantly impacted Pope John Paul II High School and the surrounding community.
