Reds Sign Closer Emilio Pagán to Urgent $20M Deal
UPDATE: Free agent closer Emilio Pagán is officially returning to the Cincinnati Reds with a significant $20 million, two-year contract. This deal, first reported by The Athletic, is pending a physical examination and has not yet been publicly announced.
Pagán, who turned 34 this year, made a remarkable impact last season, stepping up as the Reds’ closer. He recorded a solid 2.88 ERA and achieved a career-high 32 saves in just 38 opportunities. His performance ranked him second in the National League for saves, and he tied for fifth in the entire Major League Baseball.
The new contract will allow Pagán the option to opt out after the 2026 season, providing him with flexibility as he continues his career. Over his nine-year journey in the majors, Pagán has recorded a 3.66 ERA and amassed 65 saves while playing for teams including Seattle, Oakland, Tampa Bay, San Diego, Minnesota, and Cincinnati.
This move is significant for the Reds as they strengthen their bullpen heading into the next season. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Pagán will build on his successful performance and contribute to the team’s aspirations.
