ROTC Cadets Complete 64-Mile Race Ahead of Rivalry Game
BREAKING: Army ROTC cadets have just completed the remarkable “Alex’s Great State Race,” a 64-mile run between the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, just hours before the highly anticipated rivalry football game. This year marks the 12th consecutive annual event, honoring the memory of Alex Powell, a Spartan who tragically lost his battle with cancer in 2011.
The race kicked off early this morning at the Diag on the University of Michigan campus, with cadets carrying the game ball, and finished around noon at Demonstration Hall at Michigan State University. This cherished tradition not only signifies the spirited rivalry but also serves a greater purpose. Since its inception in 2014, the event has raised over $170,000 to support students with disabilities, showcasing the profound impact beyond the field.
As excitement builds for the upcoming game, the race has drawn attention from both schools’ communities, emphasizing camaraderie and resilience. The successful completion of this year’s run highlights the dedication of these young leaders, fostering a spirit of unity amidst competition.
Officials from both universities hailed the event as a vital part of the rivalry culture, with many participants expressing their pride in contributing to such a meaningful cause. “It’s not just about the race; it’s about honoring Alex’s legacy and supporting our fellow students,” said one cadet shortly after crossing the finish line.
Fans are encouraged to share their support for the cadets and the cause on social media, as the energy surrounding the rivalry game intensifies. With the game set to kick off later today, all eyes are on East Lansing for a thrilling matchup between the Spartans and Wolverines.
