UPDATE: SCP Auctions has just announced the collection of two historic World Series home run baseballs caught by a father-son duo during Game 7 of the 2025 MLB Postseason. The dramatic game took place at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, where John Bains and his son Matthew made unforgettable memories.

This significant event unfolded earlier this week when SCP Auctions’ COO, Mike Keys, confirmed that an inventory manager flew to Ontario to retrieve the baseballs. These prized catches include the game-tying home run hit by Miguel Rojas of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the top of the ninth inning, followed by Will Smith‘s series-winning home run in the 11th inning, both caught from the first row of Section 143.

Bains, a season ticket holder and founder of MD Food Transport, expressed his excitement, stating, “I’ve had seats for the last 10 years and the main reason I picked these… were for playoffs.” He attended the game with his sons, Matthew and Daniel, creating a heartfelt family experience during a pivotal moment in baseball history.

The authentication process for these baseballs will take a few days, as SCP Auctions needs to collect sworn affidavits and conduct polygraph tests with the Bains family. Due to Major League Baseball policy, the balls will not be authenticated by MLB since they left the playing field without an official witness.

Keys highlighted the importance of this process: “With these balls that don’t get MLB stickered, that’s how we have to go about things.” The auction house emphasizes the need for thorough verification before these baseballs hit the auction block.

The potential value of these collectibles is staggering. The final-pitch ball from the 2024 World Series sold for $414,000 earlier this year, while Freddie Freeman‘s walk-off home run ball from the same series fetched an impressive $1.56 million, marking the third-most expensive baseball ever sold. Experts predict that the Rojas and Smith baseballs could reach well into six figures, with estimates suggesting Smith’s home run ball may approach seven figures.

As the auction house prepares for this extraordinary sale, the baseball community eagerly awaits the outcome. Fans and collectors are buzzing with excitement, making this story one to follow closely.

Stay tuned for further updates as the authentication process unfolds and the auction date approaches. This is a compelling moment not just for the Bains family, but for baseball fans and collectors worldwide, highlighting the emotional significance and financial potential of our favorite pastime.
