Suspect in Brooklyn Subway Slashings Arrested for Burglary
UPDATE: A suspect in a series of alarming subway slashings has been apprehended in Brooklyn. Odyssey Head, 27, was arrested early Saturday morning in connection with a burglary incident on New York Avenue, just hours after three men were randomly slashed on the subway.
Police responded to the burglary report around 5 a.m. on July 15, 2023, where they found Head had damaged property, including a washer and dryer, and set fire to items before fleeing the scene. Officers discovered him shortly after, with a kitchen knife believed to be the weapon used in the subway attacks.
Authorities confirm Head is suspected of slashing three men within a 24-hour period in Flatbush. The first victim, 37, was attacked on a Q train Saturday morning. The second attack occurred just before 10 p.m. that same day at the intersection of Foster Avenue and New York Avenue, while the third victim, aged 56, was slashed around 7 a.m. Sunday on Newkirk Avenue. All three men sustained injuries to the left side of their faces and were transported to the hospital, where they are reported to be stable.
As of now, Head has not been formally charged in connection to the subway incidents. He has been taken to Maimonides Medical Center for a psychological evaluation, raising concerns about his mental state amidst this violent spree.
This urgent situation has left the community on edge, as police continue to investigate the slashings and the circumstances surrounding the burglary. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as authorities work to bring clarity and justice to the victims.
