While popular attractions like the Basilica of St. Anthony drew crowds in the morning, they dissipated by evening, allowing DeLaurentis and her mother to savor local cuisine and enjoy cocktails at outdoor bars. “We loved tasting Ravenna’s famed cappelletti pasta and indulging in Aperol Spritz, which originated in Padua,” she noted.

The shift toward smaller cities reflects a growing desire among travelers for authentic experiences away from the throngs of tourists. Venice alone typically attracts over 10 million visitors annually, while cities like Padua see a fraction of that, offering a refreshing alternative.
