Travelers Hit the Road as New York Prepares for Winter Rush
UPDATE: New York is witnessing a surge in travel as the holiday season approaches, with millions preparing for winter journeys. The New York State Department of Transportation reports that all modes of transport are seeing increased usage as residents gear up for trips.
Residents like Lisa Jackson are prioritizing vehicle maintenance to ensure safe travels. “I like to make sure my tires have good tread. Or do I need winter tires or new tires?” Jackson stated while visiting Complete Automotive Solutions in Rochester, N.Y. She emphasizes the importance of being proactive about vehicle readiness.
At the automotive repair shop, Nick Mastrodonato, the service manager, confirms a busy season. “A lot of people are scheduling appointments trying to do their maintenance before they go on trips,” he said. He highlights that drivers are ensuring their tires, brakes, and suspension are in top condition for long trips.
According to Marie Therese Dominguez, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation, the travel landscape is robust. “We are definitely recovering from the government shutdown, particularly in the aviation sector,” she remarked. Dominguez noted that a full-scale return to travel is evident across the state, with increasing traffic on roads, trains, and flights.
The AAA reports that millions are expected to travel this holiday season, buoyed by declining gas prices. “The trend is still downward,” said Paul Marone from the Gasoline Dealers Association of New York. He anticipates that holiday gasoline prices will remain stable, making road trips more affordable for families.
As winter weather looms, experts urge travelers to prepare. Marone advises, “Your car has to be ready for the weather. You can get good gas mileage like that if you prepare ahead.” He emphasizes the importance of vehicle upkeep to ensure safe arrival at destinations.
Dominguez also provides essential tips for travelers: “My best advice is always plan ahead. Be in touch with your airline, download the app, and keep an eye on the weather, because obviously, it’s New York.”
With the holiday season nearing, New Yorkers are not just planning trips; they are actively preparing to hit the road in increasing numbers. As travel resumes at a robust pace, officials are committed to making journeys smoother for everyone.
The message is clear: Whether traveling by air, rail, or road, New Yorkers are ready to embrace winter travel, and the state is poised to support them every step of the way. Plan ahead, stay informed, and make the most of the holiday travel season.
