URGENT UPDATE: A United Airlines Boeing 737 Max suffered a serious incident midair, resulting in a cracked windscreen at 36,000 feet during a flight from Denver to Los Angeles. The incident occurred just 37 minutes after takeoff on Thursday morning, causing the aircraft to make an emergency diversion to Salt Lake City.

Witness reports and images indicate that the cockpit was filled with shattered glass, and disturbing images appear to show the captain with a bloodied forearm. Eyewitness accounts suggest that scorch marks on the plane could indicate it was struck by space debris or possibly a small meteorite.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the incident, confirming via an X post that they are collecting radar, weather, and flight recorder data. The windscreen has been sent for analysis to their laboratories.

United Airlines has acknowledged the damage, stating, “The plane landed safely in Salt Lake City to address damage to its multilayered windshield.” This design feature allows the windscreen to remain operational even if one layer is compromised.

Following the incident, passengers were transferred to a different Boeing 737 Max, which landed in Los Angeles at 1:12 p.m. PT, approximately five and a half hours late. Meanwhile, the original aircraft was rerouted to Chicago Rockford Airport for maintenance.

Aviation enthusiast JonNYC, who first reported the incident, shared images showing the damaged windscreen and the cockpit’s interior. He speculated about the potential cause, mentioning the scorch marks and the possibility of impact with space debris.

This incident raises significant safety concerns and highlights the unpredictable nature of air travel. Authorities are working swiftly to determine the cause and ensure the safety of future flights.

Passengers and crew on board are shaken but safe, as the investigation continues. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
