Urgent High School Football Playoffs: Major Local Upsets Tonight
UPDATE: High school football playoffs are heating up in the Southland, with significant upsets and standout performances reported just hours ago. In a thrilling second round of state playoffs held on November 3, 2023, teams from Aurora, Elgin, Naperville, and Lake County showcased their skills, delivering results that will resonate with local fans.
In the highly anticipated CLASS 8A matchup, No. 9 Lincoln-Way East dominated No. 25 Palatine with a staggering score of 55-13, securing their spot in the next round. Meanwhile, No. 16 Hersey stunned the top-ranked No. 1 Richards with a 42-21 victory, marking a dramatic upset that will be talked about for weeks.
The excitement didn’t stop there. No. 13 Batavia also made headlines, defeating No. 4 Glenbard East 42-21. No. 10 St. Laurence showed their strength against No. 2 Bradley-Bourbonnais, finishing strong with a 35-21 scoreline, led by Cory Les, who rushed for 180 yards and crossed the end zone three times.
In CLASS 5A, No. 2 Belvidere North narrowly edged out No. 7 Kaneland, winning 30-25 in a tightly contested game. The night concluded with No. 1 Richmond-Burton overwhelming No. 9 Aurora Central Catholic with a decisive 57-7 victory.
The local soccer scene was equally thrilling. In the CLASS 3A state semifinals held at Hoffman Estates, St. Laurence triumphed over Glenbrook North 3-0, while Naperville North secured their place in the finals by defeating Lane 1-0, thanks to a goal from Brian Biederman.
For high school volleyball fans, sectional championships offered nail-biting finishes. In CLASS 4A, Benet defeated St. Charles North 25-21, 25-15, while Marist overcame Mother McAuley with scores of 26-24, 25-22.
In local college basketball, the action continued with Carl Sandburg edging out Lake County 66-63, and Elgin impressively defeating Joliet 94-70.
