Urgent Holiday Events: Women’s Party, Workshops, and Charity Drives
UPDATE: Exciting holiday events are happening NOW across various local churches, offering community members unique opportunities to connect, celebrate, and give back this season.
CrossPoint Church at 214 S. Court St. is hosting a “Favorite Things” Women’s Christmas Party on December 8 at 6:30 p.m.. Attendees are encouraged to bring three of the same wrapped gifts, valued between $5 and $10, to exchange. This festive gathering promises to be a highlight for many local women. Additionally, St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church will hold a winter workshop focusing on holiday greenery on December 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. Participants will create a 12-inch planter using assorted fresh cut greenery, with expert assistance available. The workshop takes place at Niemeyers Landscape Supply, located at 101 W. In Gary, the Marquette Park United Methodist Church invites everyone to worship every Sunday at 11:15 a.m., with refreshments served afterward in the Fellowship Hall, fostering community spirit and connection.
In Hammond, Faith United Church of Christ hosts its Sunday service at 10 a.m., inviting fellowship and coffee to follow, enriching the community’s weekend experience.
As the holidays approach, the Diocese of Gary is actively collecting donations of hats, scarves, and gloves for the Caps for Kids campaign at their office located at 9292 Broadway. This initiative, running through January, supports the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in providing essential winter gear for those in need. Mark your calendars for December 20, when Bishop Robert J. McClory will celebrate Simbang Gabi at Our Lady of Queen of Martyrs – South Campus at 4 p.m.. This Filipino Christmas tradition features nine days of Masses, providing a beautiful cultural experience for the community, followed by a festive reception.
In Munster, the Knight of Columbus Council 10596 will kick off its annual Christmas Tree and Wreath Sale starting November 28. The sale runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. Families can enjoy walking through the tree lot to select the perfect tree, with treats available for children. Proceeds will benefit local charities, and payments are accepted via cash or check only.
Lastly, the Valparaiso Baptist Church is hosting a Nursing Home Ministry event on November 30 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Golden Living Center, located at 251 Sturdy Road.
