UPDATE: A light snow system is sweeping through parts of Pennsylvania this Sunday, and residents in Warren and McKean Counties should prepare for accumulations of 1-2 inches by evening. The snow will impact northwestern Pennsylvania from this afternoon into the evening, creating potentially hazardous conditions on roadways.

As temperatures remain below freezing across the state, central Pennsylvania will experience mostly cloudy skies today. A weak weather disturbance tracking north will bring snow showers primarily to the northwestern mountains, with light accumulations expected. Most areas outside of the northwest corner will see under an inch of snow, particularly along the Allegheny Front.

Residents are advised to brace for frigid temperatures continuing into Monday, with daytime highs struggling to exceed freezing. Particularly cold conditions are forecasted for Monday night, with temperatures plummeting into the single digits and low teens across central Pennsylvania. Authorities urge residents to protect vulnerable pipes and ensure adequate home heating to mitigate the impacts of this bitter cold.

Additionally, an air quality alert has been issued by the National Weather Service for Dauphin, Lebanon, Cumberland, York, and Lancaster counties, effective until midnight Monday. Residents in these areas should monitor air quality updates and take necessary precautions.

Looking ahead, a high-pressure system will bring dry conditions on Monday, but another northern stream system is set to brush across the northern tier of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, potentially bringing more light snow. The weather pattern remains active this week, with several clipper systems expected to bring additional winter precipitation from Wednesday into next weekend.

Meteorologists are closely watching models that suggest a more significant storm could impact the Mid-Atlantic region by Friday. The cold weather pattern is anticipated to persist, with a strong trough over the eastern United States.

As winter officially begins at 10:03 a.m. on Sunday, December 21, residents are reminded to stay informed and prepare for the continuing winter weather. Share this urgent update with friends and family to keep everyone safe and prepared!
