UPDATE: A tragic fire in the Village of Raymond on Monday has resulted in the death of Jenna Zuehlke, as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the blaze. The fire, which erupted at 2085 108th St., left two individuals trapped inside while two others managed to escape.

Emergency responders confirmed that a Racine County deputy successfully rescued a child from the scene, who was subsequently transported to Children’s Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition as of Tuesday morning. Zuehlke was pronounced dead at the scene by the Racine County medical examiner.

Friends and family are left seeking answers, with Becca Kostrzewski, a close friend of Zuehlke, expressing deep concern for her friend Carol, who lived in the house. “I hope she is okay. I know she was doing the best by letting friends stay at the house with her,” Kostrzewski said. She emphasized the kindness of her friend, who had opened her home to those in need.

Kostrzewski recounted her anxious wait for news, stating, “I’ve tried reaching out to her several times, and I have not heard anything back.” The emotional toll of the incident is palpable, with Kostrzewski reflecting on the fond memories created in the home. “It was always a pleasure to be in their home,” she added.

The Racine County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Racine County Sheriff’s Office are actively investigating the incident. Authorities have not yet released specific details about the fire’s origin, leaving the community in suspense.

“It’s sad all the way around. Right now, it’s just sad,” Kostrzewski lamented, summarizing the collective grief felt by friends and family. As the investigation unfolds, many are left hoping for answers regarding this devastating event.
