V Foundation Raises Record $3.1 Million at ‘Boo-Yah’ Gala
BREAKING: The V Foundation for Cancer Research has achieved an astonishing milestone, raising a record-breaking $3.1 million during its 10th annual “Boo-Yah” gala in New York City on October 18, 2023. This event, a heartfelt tribute to the late ESPN anchor Stuart Scott, underscores the ongoing fight against cancer and celebrates Scott’s enduring legacy.
The gala coincided with the premiere of “Boo-Yah: A Portrait of Stuart Scott,” a new “30 for 30” film detailing Scott’s life, including his brave battle with cancer. Director Andre Gaines emphasized the profound impact Scott had on many, stating,
“He was forced to fight it and in such a public way because he was such a huge public figure… there are many, many cancer survivors today because of being inspired by the way that Stuart fought cancer.”
This year’s record amount contributes to the V Foundation’s impressive total of over $400 million raised for cancer research since its inception. James Pitaro, ESPN Chairman, expressed pride in the foundation’s work, saying,
“The V Foundation is a huge part of who we are at ESPN… our ability to contribute, pay it forward, pay back.”
The emotional event saw Stuart Scott’s family, including his sister Susan Scott and mother Jackie Scott, participate in both the gala and the film debut. Susan Scott highlighted the foundation’s commitment, stating,
“100% of every dollar of donation goes directly to funding cancer research. And we will always do those two things.”
Hosted by Scott’s former co-anchor Rich Eisen and ABC News Senior Political Correspondent Rachel Scott, the gala featured the inaugural Stuart Scott Impact Award presented to former NFL star and cancer survivor Randy Moss. Moss expressed gratitude towards Scott’s mother, indicating how Scott’s legacy continues to inspire future generations in media.
With the V Foundation’s continued dedication to cancer research and awareness, this gala not only celebrates a beloved sports figure but also ignites hope for countless individuals affected by cancer. As the event unfolds, the impact of Stuart Scott’s story continues to resonate, inspiring action and support in the fight against this disease.
