White House Account Slams Reporter After National Guard Shooting
UPDATE: A fierce exchange erupted between an official White House account and a prominent journalist following the shooting of two National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. The incident has sparked outrage and political blame just hours after it occurred.
The National Guard troops were shot in broad daylight, with initial reports indicating they were deceased. However, authorities later confirmed that both are alive but in critical condition. Details about the incident remain sparse, with the suspect identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national. A motive for the attack has yet to be established.
In a heated response to journalist Jane Mayer of The New Yorker, who criticized President Donald Trump‘s decision to deploy National Guard troops, the White House-affiliated account Rapid Response 47 unleashed a barrage of insults. Mayer’s original post on X described the deployment as “tragic” and “unnecessary,” stating that the guardsmen “should never have been deployed” and accused the operation of being a political spectacle.
Rapid Response 47 fired back, labeling Mayer a “sick, disgusting ghoul” and emphasizing the heroism of the troops involved. “Two of these heroes were just SHOT IN BROAD DAYLIGHT,” the account stated. “The Guard has saved countless lives — backed up by evidence (which you’re clearly too stupid to notice). They are American Patriots.”
This exchange highlights the growing tension surrounding the military presence in the capital, particularly in light of recent events. Republican leaders have begun to leverage the situation for political gain. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) criticized a group of six military veteran Democrats after they released a video urging troops to refuse unlawful orders, suggesting their actions may have contributed to the unfolding chaos.
As the situation develops, the focus remains on the well-being of the injured National Guard members and the implications of their deployment. The incident has raised significant questions about the safety of service members in urban environments and the political motivations behind their presence.
Stay tuned for more updates as this urgent story unfolds. The lives of these guardsmen and the broader implications of this incident continue to resonate deeply within the community and the nation.
