Women’s Professional Baseball League Reveals Four Teams for 2026

URGENT UPDATE: The Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) has just announced that New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will host the four teams competing in its highly anticipated inaugural season set for 2026. This groundbreaking league, co-founded by Justine Siegal, the first woman to coach an MLB team, aims to revitalize women’s professional baseball.
The announcement comes as the league prepares to launch a six-team circuit with a full schedule, including playoffs and an All-Star Game. When it kicks off, the WPBL will mark the first professional league for women since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League disbanded in 1954—the league famously depicted in the film A League of Their Own.
With a commitment to inclusivity and competitive spirit, the WPBL will feature 15 players per team, selected through upcoming summer tryouts. The league will conduct its draft next month, showcasing some of baseball’s brightest talents, including former Little League sensation Mo’ne Davis, USA Baseball’s Kelsie Whitmore, and Japanese pitcher Ayami Sato.
The four chosen cities were strategically selected due to their significant market size and passionate fan bases. “Each of these cities are storied sports cities,” Siegal stated. “We can’t wait to connect with the fans who live there and baseball fans across the country.”
All WPBL games will take place at a neutral venue, which the league will announce at a later date. This innovative approach aims to cultivate a national audience for women’s baseball, inspiring a new generation of players and fans alike.
As the league gears up for its inaugural season, the WPBL is poised to make history, breaking barriers and creating opportunities for women in professional sports. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for upcoming details on team rosters and game schedules, as excitement builds for this transformative moment in sports history.
The WPBL is a significant step forward in the fight for gender equality in athletics, and the world is watching closely as women take the field in a professional capacity once more. This is not just a game; it’s a movement.
