Everett C. Jones Sr. Takes Executive Role at Love in Action
Former executive director of Northlands Rescue Mission, Everett C. Jones Sr., has accepted a new position as executive director at Love in Action. This transition comes approximately six weeks after his termination from the Grand Forks emergency shelter, a decision he attributes to personal conflicts with a board member. The announcement was made public during a press release on November 14, 2023, which has drawn attention from community members and nonprofit leaders.
Community Reaction and Leadership Changes
Jones’ departure from Northlands Rescue Mission was met with surprise and concern, particularly among local nonprofit leaders. Doris Lebby, co-founder and board president of Love in Action, expressed her enthusiasm for Jones’ new role. In the press release, she stated, “I’m looking forward to the next level that God is taking Love in Action with Everett’s leadership. His expertise will be a great support to the operational side of our organization.”
In his new position, Jones has pledged to forgo his salary during the initial phase of his leadership. His decision aims to ensure that resources are redirected toward stabilizing and enhancing Love in Action. “Love in Action is sustained solely through the kindness and generosity of donors — we receive no government funding or grants at this time,” Jones noted. “I want to honor that sacrifice with my own.”
Expressing his commitment to the organization’s mission, Jones stated, “I am stepping forward simply as a servant of Christ, ready to labor in love so that this ministry continues to grow, expand, and bless the lives of all whom God sends to our door.”
Mission and Growth of Love in Action
Founded by Doris Lebby and Janet Nelson, Love in Action emerged from a desire to support underserved and overlooked populations. Their initial outreach efforts, grounded in prayer and personal connections, have evolved into a significant community hub. Now recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Love in Action has broadened its mission to unite churches, organizations, and volunteers in collaborative service.
The organization has expanded its programs, including the Money in Your Hands Project and open mic nights, both designed to foster community interaction and healing. Under Jones’ leadership, Love in Action plans to enhance its outreach and create spaces for healing, worship, and creativity, serving the community with dignity and compassion.
According to the press release, “Love in Action is committed to being a place where faith is lived, love is shown, and hope is restored.” Kristen Wilde, board vice president, shared her thoughts on the timing of this transition, suggesting that sometimes changes occur not due to failure, but as a part of a larger divine plan. “God beautifully weaves people together at just the right moment, and we’ve seen His hand in this very thing,” Wilde remarked.
Nelson added her excitement about Jones joining Love in Action, highlighting his deep commitment and passion for the work. She believes the organization is entering a new phase of growth and compassion. “We are thrilled to welcome Jones, who brings heart and dedication,” Nelson said, emphasizing the positive impact his leadership will have.
As Love in Action continues to develop its programs and strengthen its community ties, the organization is poised for a transformative period under Jones’ guidance, marking a new chapter in its mission to serve those in need.
