HBO has officially commenced production on the second season of its spinoff series, Dune: Prophecy. This season will feature an expanded format, consisting of eight episodes, a notable increase from the six episodes that comprised the first season. This decision appears to diverge from the current trend in streaming, where many series typically receive equal or fewer episodes in subsequent seasons, especially those that have garnered mixed reviews.

The cast for the upcoming season has also been enhanced with several notable additions. Among them is Indira Varma, known for her roles in Game of Thrones, Rome, and The Night Manager. She is joined by Ashley Walters, who received an Emmy nomination for his performance in Netflix’s Adolescence. Tom Hollander, also recognized for his work in The White Lotus and The Night Manager, will round out the new cast members.

Filming Locations and Production Team

Filming for Dune: Prophecy is taking place across several international locations, including Hungary, Jordan, and Spain. The showrunner and executive producer, Alison Schapker, returns to guide the project.

While a premiere date has not yet been announced, there is speculation that the series could return by the end of 2026, though 2027 is considered more likely. The story is set 10,000 years prior to the rise of Paul Atreides and follows two Harkonnen sisters as they navigate challenges that threaten the future of humanity and establish the esteemed order that will eventually be known as the Bene Gesserit.

Returning cast members include Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, Barbara Marten, and Tessa Bonham Jones.

As production progresses, fans of the franchise are eagerly anticipating what the expanded season will bring to the intricate and expansive universe created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert.
