Sky News is set to debut its new breakfast show, Mornings With Ridge and Frost, on Monday, featuring hosts Sophy Ridge and Wilfred Frost. The program will air from 07:00 to 10:00 London time, Monday through Thursday. In addition, the duo will launch a podcast titled Cheat Sheet With Ridge and Frost, which will provide a concise rundown of the day’s major headlines. This podcast will be available on all major platforms starting at 06:00 London time.
Ridge, who previously hosted Politics Hub With Sophy Ridge and Sophy Ridge on Sunday, has a wealth of experience in political broadcasting. Frost is recognized for his roles on Sky News Breakfast and Sky News Today, and he is the son of the renowned broadcaster David Frost. Both hosts aim to bring a fresh perspective to morning news programming.
Engaging Format with Authentic Conversations
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridge and Frost discussed their vision for the show, emphasizing a mix of serious news coverage and informal dialogue. “Authenticity is about communicating with the audience in a much more direct way,” Ridge noted. She expressed enthusiasm for the unscripted elements that have proven successful during rehearsals, allowing both hosts to infuse their personal insights into the discussions.
Frost added a lighthearted touch, stating, “We’re both massive geeks, but we also want to have some fun.” Their goal is to present news in a way that resonates with both traditional viewers and those accustomed to social media. “You want to do both of those in one show,” Ridge explained, highlighting the need for an accessible yet informative format.
By creating a dynamic atmosphere reminiscent of informal pub conversations, the hosts aim to engage a broader audience. “It’s like the two of us are at a bar, and then the viewer just pulled up the bar stool on the other side,” Ridge said. Frost concurred, emphasizing the importance of authentic, unscripted dialogue in appealing to younger demographics.
Targeting a Diverse Audience with Big-Name Guests
Ridge and Frost recognize the significance of attracting a younger and more diverse viewership. “There is an opportunity for us to try and attract more young viewers, more female viewers,” Frost stated. Both hosts are in their early forties and believe their experiences will resonate with a fresh audience.
The show will feature a range of notable guests from politics, business, and culture, aiming to set the morning agenda rather than merely reflecting existing news narratives. “We want the papers to be following our stories and our interviews,” Ridge asserted, focusing on individuals who directly impact viewers’ lives.
The podcast, while distinct in format and duration, shares similar goals with the television show. Frost described it as providing essential news insights, stating, “We’ve done the work so you don’t have to.” The 10-minute podcast will summarize the top five stories of the day, allowing listeners to stay informed efficiently.
With the premiere of Mornings With Ridge and Frost approaching, both hosts are eager to share their vision with viewers. Ridge expressed excitement about the creative freedom involved in producing the show. “It does feel quite fun to have been given a blank slate,” she said, emphasizing the collaborative nature of their work.
Frost echoed Ridge’s sentiment, stating, “I’ve never been as excited about anything in my career as I am for this.” He believes the collaborative effort will lead to a program that is both entertaining and informative, with a unique chemistry between the hosts.
As they prepare for the show’s launch, Ridge remains optimistic about the challenges ahead, joking about the demands of early morning broadcasting. “The biggest risk is the alarm clock and just working out how many coffees I can have before going on air,” she quipped, underscoring their readiness to engage viewers with a fresh approach to morning news.
With a commitment to authenticity and a desire to connect with a diverse audience, Mornings With Ridge and Frost promises to be a compelling addition to Sky News’ lineup.
