Nonprofit Pays Off Mortgage for Fallen Burnsville Firefighter
UPDATE: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has just announced a significant act of support for the family of fallen Burnsville Fire Department firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth. The nonprofit will pay off the mortgage on the Finseth family’s home through its Fallen First Responder Home Program, as part of the 2025 Season of Hope.
This generous gesture follows the tragic incident on February 18, 2024, when Finseth, aged 40, was fatally shot while responding to a domestic violence call. Finseth’s bravery was on full display as he acted without hesitation to protect others, even when he was off-duty. Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann honored Finseth with the title of Firefighter of the Year, highlighting his commitment and dedication.
On that fateful evening, Finseth and fellow officers Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, encountered a dangerous situation. The gunman opened fire unexpectedly during negotiations, putting everyone at risk, including seven children present in the home. Finseth, serving as one of two SWAT medics, rushed to provide medical aid to an officer when he was shot by the assailant, who later took his own life. Remarkably, the children and the gunman’s girlfriend emerged unharmed.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, inspired by the events of September 11, 2001, aims to support the families of first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their commitment to assisting the Finseth family demonstrates a profound respect for those who serve and protect communities.
As the community mourns the loss of a dedicated hero, this mortgage payoff provides a glimmer of hope and relief for the Finseth family during this difficult time. The Foundation’s action is a reminder of the sacrifices made by first responders and the ongoing support they need.
In the coming days, the Burnsville community will likely come together to honor Finseth’s legacy and support his family. Stay tuned for updates on memorial services and community initiatives aimed at celebrating the life and dedication of Adam Finseth.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation continues to accept donations to further their mission of supporting fallen heroes’ families, ensuring that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
