North Port Chamber Breaks Fundraising Records for Shop With a Cop
The North Port Area Chamber of Commerce has achieved a significant milestone by raising a record amount for its annual Shop With a Cop program, an initiative that fosters positive relationships between local law enforcement and children in need. Over the past five years, this program has partnered with the North Port Police Department to provide children with an opportunity to shop for holiday gifts alongside police officers.
In December 2023, the Chamber announced it had successfully collected over $25,000 in donations and Walmart gift cards. This funding will directly support local families, allowing children from disadvantaged backgrounds to enjoy a special shopping experience during the holiday season.
The Shop With a Cop program has grown in popularity since its inception, reflecting the community’s commitment to supporting its youth. Each year, police officers volunteer their time to accompany children on shopping trips, helping them select gifts for themselves and their families. This initiative not only provides essential items but also creates lasting bonds between children and law enforcement.
Chamber President Sarah Thompson expressed her gratitude, stating, “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our community. This record amount will allow us to reach even more children this holiday season than ever before.” The support from local businesses and residents has been instrumental in the program’s success, with many contributing to the fundraising efforts.
The partnership between the Chamber and the North Port Police Department exemplifies effective collaboration aimed at community betterment. Police Chief, James Smith, emphasized the importance of such programs, noting, “Shop With a Cop is more than just a shopping trip; it’s about building trust and positive relationships with our youth.”
As the holiday season approaches, the anticipation surrounding the Shop With a Cop program continues to build. The event is set to take place on December 15, 2023, at the local Walmart in North Port, Florida. Officers and children will come together for a day filled with joy, laughter, and meaningful interactions.
With each passing year, the program not only helps provide for children in need but also strengthens community ties, fostering a spirit of unity and support. The North Port Area Chamber of Commerce looks forward to continuing its efforts and expanding the program’s reach in the years to come.
