Tolmar, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, has officially opened its new laboratory at Rosalind Franklin University’s Innovation and Research Park (IRP) in North Chicago, Illinois, as of December 16, 2025. This new facility enhances Tolmar’s capabilities in developing and commercializing pharmaceutical products while also enriching the university’s ecosystem of industry innovation.

Founded in 2007, Tolmar is recognized globally for its advanced long-acting injectable drug delivery systems. The company specializes in developing and manufacturing injectables targeting urology, oncology, and endocrinology. Its flagship product, designed for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer, is available in 89 countries worldwide.

The establishment of the Northern Illinois Laboratory at the IRP complements the existing team of researchers and operations staff at Tolmar’s Colorado facility. This move not only boosts the company’s research capacity but also strengthens its presence in the region, which includes executive offices and sales personnel located in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.

Collaboration and Growth Opportunities

Dr. Dave Loffredo, Vice President of Innovation at Tolmar, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the company’s development capabilities to include both Colorado and Illinois. “After an exhaustive search, we found a great home at Rosalind Franklin’s IRP,” he stated. “Tolmar scientists are eager to be a part of this dynamic research environment and hope to grow our presence at IRP.”

The new laboratory is expected to create a collaborative atmosphere, fostering partnerships with leading scientists and access to advanced research cores. Dr. Stace Porter, Senior Vice President of Development Operations at Tolmar, highlighted the potential for innovation within this vibrant network of life science companies in Lake County. “At Rosalind Franklin University’s Innovation and Research Park, Tolmar gains world-class research space,” Dr. Porter noted.

A Hub of Innovation

The IRP, which spans 100,000 square feet, houses six research centers, including the Center for Cancer Cell Biology, Immunology, and Infection. Dr. Joseph DiMario, Executive Vice President for Research at RFU, welcomed Tolmar to the university’s roster of companies. He remarked, “We look forward to collaborations that can help accelerate new product development.”

The IRP aims to encourage intellectual exchanges that lead to meaningful innovations in biomedical research. The partnership between Tolmar and Rosalind Franklin University underscores the growing synergy between academia and industry, which is essential for advancing healthcare solutions.
