Marc Douglas Berardo Welcomes Craig Bickhardt to “Harbor Songs”

On March 10, 2024, acclaimed singer-songwriter Marc Douglas Berardo will host renowned Master Songwriter Craig Bickhardt at the United Theatre in Westerly, as part of his ongoing “Harbor Songs” concert series. This event marks a continuation of Berardo’s mission to spotlight exceptional songwriters, a tradition he initiated several years ago at The Malted Barley.
Bickhardt, who has co-written songs for notable artists such as Art Garfunkel, Nicolette Larson, and Kathy Mattea, brings a wealth of experience to the stage. His collaborations include hits like “I Know Where I’m Going,” performed by The Judds, and “It Must Be Love,” a chart-topping success for Ty Herndon. This concert represents an opportunity for local audiences to engage with a songwriter whose work has deeply resonated across the music industry.
History of the Harbor Songs Series
Berardo, who is also recognized as MDB, has built a reputation as an award-winning performer over his more than 30-year career. The “Harbor Songs” series was created as a platform for Berardo to share his favorite songwriters with the community. The inaugural event featured the late Grammy-winning artist David Olney, who tragically passed away during a performance in 2021.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Berardo adapted by hosting online broadcasts, which allowed him to maintain connections with fans. Since resuming live concerts, the series has included appearances by nationally recognized singer-songwriters such as Walt Wilkins and Danielle Miraglia, as well as local talents like Sandman Allen and Dr. Westchesterson.
A New Venue and Exciting Performances
After the closure of The Malted Barley in February 2023, Berardo relocated “Harbor Songs” to the United Theatre. The first concert at the new venue featured Grammy-nominated artist Ari Hest in November 2023, drawing enthusiastic crowds. Subsequent shows have included performances by artists such as Grace Morrison and Abbie Gardner, alongside special guests like The CarLeans and Jim Paradis.
“The Harbor Songs format allows the song makers to tell the stories behind their songs and present them in a stripped-down and intimate way,” Berardo stated. He emphasized that these concerts offer audiences a chance to “feel and share in the beauty and mystery of song creation.”
Tickets for the upcoming concert are priced at $20 in advance and $25 at the door, available for purchase on the United Theatre’s website, unitedtheatre.org. For information about future performances, fans can visit marcdouglas.com.
