Driver Dies in El Cajon Collision with Box Truck

A tragic accident in El Cajon, California, resulted in the death of a 19-year-old driver following a collision with a box truck. The incident occurred on March 14, 2024, around 15:25 near the intersection of Broadway and Oro Street, according to Lt. Joe Crawford of the El Cajon Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the box truck overturned on its side. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle briefly engulfed in flames. The driver of the BMW, identified as Jesse Hernandez from El Cajon, was trapped inside the severely damaged car. Emergency responders extricated him and transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Details of the Incident

Authorities indicated that excessive speed may have played a role in the crash. Lt. Crawford noted that witnesses suggested the BMW was possibly participating in a speed contest with another vehicle prior to the collision. The two delivery workers inside the box truck sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

No arrests have been made in connection with the accident, and the investigation is ongoing. The El Cajon Police Department is encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 619-579-3311.
