Hailey Bieber Explains PRP and PRF Injections in Podcast Interview
Hailey Bieber recently opened up about her preferred facial treatments, specifically PRP and PRF injections, during an appearance on the “In Your Dreams” podcast hosted by Owen Thiele. The 28-year-old model and beauty entrepreneur shared her experiences with these treatments, highlighting her preference for them over Botox.
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, and PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, leverage an individual’s own blood to enhance skin rejuvenation and healing. According to Dr. Jason Diamond, a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, these medical procedures are designed to “promote wound and tissue repair in the body” depending on the specific concerns being treated.
The processes for PRP and PRF are similar but not identical. PRP involves drawing a small amount of blood and using a centrifugation method to concentrate the platelets. The resultant “weightless plasma” is then injected into the targeted areas. This concentrated plasma can also be applied topically following procedures such as laser treatments and microneedling. Leah Corredora, a board-certified physician assistant at JECT, noted that PRP can significantly improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity.
In contrast, PRF utilizes a slower centrifugation process that creates a gel-like substance containing not just platelets but also white blood cells and a fibrin matrix. Dr. Diamond explained that this method offers a more extensive healing response, which can lead to considerable improvements in volume and skin quality.
Bieber’s choice of treatments reflects a growing trend among individuals seeking non-surgical options for skin enhancement. Dr. Diamond’s “Diamond InstaFacial” incorporates both PRP and PRF to target fine lines, tear troughs, acne scars, and wrinkles. For those experiencing hair loss, the treatments can also be adapted to enhance scalp health by increasing blood flow and nutrient delivery, potentially resulting in denser hair.
While many clients are suitable candidates for these treatments, Dr. Diamond advises those with blood disorders, autoimmune conditions, or those taking blood-thinning medications to consult with their aesthetic provider before proceeding. The side effects associated with PRP and PRF are typically minimal, often limited to mild swelling and bruising for a day or two. Given that these treatments utilize the patient’s own blood, the likelihood of allergic reactions is considerably reduced.
As more individuals explore cosmetic procedures, Hailey Bieber’s insights shed light on popular yet sophisticated options, combining personal experience with medical expertise. The conversation around PRP and PRF signifies a shift towards treatments that harness the body’s natural healing properties, offering an alternative to traditional injectables like Botox.
