BREAKING: Gators’ Vernell Brown III OUT Against Georgia with Injury
URGENT UPDATE: The Florida Gators will face a significant setback this weekend as starting receiver Vernell Brown III has been ruled out of the crucial matchup against Georgia due to a shoulder injury. This announcement was made just hours ago, leaving the Gators without their leading receiver and one of their most dynamic offensive threats.
Brown, who has accumulated 726 all-purpose yards this season, including 451 receiving yards, has proven critical to Florida’s offense. Among his 32 receptions, he has recorded three of the team’s four plays that surpassed 40 yards. His absence underscores the urgency for the Gators, who are currently averaging a disappointing 17 points against FBS competition.
The injury occurred during the Gators’ 23-21 victory over Mississippi State on October 18. While the issue is not deemed serious enough to rule him out for an extended period, his immediate absence will be felt against a formidable opponent like Georgia. Additionally, interim head coach Billy Gonzales confirmed that Aidan Mizell, a redshirt sophomore receiver, will also miss the game, compounding the challenges for Florida’s offense.
In light of these developments, true freshman Dallas Wilson will be thrust into a larger role. Wilson has already made an impact this season with 11 catches and three touchdowns in just three games. Alongside him, UCLA transfer J. Michael Sturdivant will need to step up, having recorded 15 catches for 214 yards and one score so far.
The Gators are also managing additional injuries, with backup tailback Ja’Kobi Jackson set to miss his fourth consecutive game, and true freshman Duke Clark listed as questionable. Redshirt freshman KD Daniels is expected to take on a more significant role following the injuries to key players.
As Florida prepares to face Georgia, they will welcome back three starters in their secondary, including safety Jordan Castell, who missed the last game. The Gators are looking to regroup and adapt to the losses as they strive to improve their season performance.
Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops. The Gators need to rally their remaining talent to compete effectively this weekend.
