Trump Celebrates Dodgers’ World Series Win, Invites Team to White House
President Donald Trump extended his congratulations to the Los Angeles Dodgers following their dramatic victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2025 World Series. The Dodgers clinched the championship with a 5-4 win in Game 7, which concluded after 11 innings on Saturday, marking their second consecutive World Series title. In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his admiration for the team, stating, “Congratulations to the L.A. Dodgers, a game won by incredible CHAMPIONS!!!”
The Dodgers’ success this year makes them the first team to achieve back-to-back titles since the New York Yankees won three straight championships from 1998 to 2000. During his congratulatory message, Trump emphasized the talent of the players, saying, “A lesser group of men would never have been able to win that game, or Game 6, for that matter. So many stars made it all happen.”
Trump also acknowledged the ownership of the Dodgers for their role in the team’s achievements, adding, “What a great job they have done. SEE YOU ALL AT THE WHITE HOUSE!!!”
Victory Celebrations and White House Tradition
This year’s win follows the Dodgers’ triumph over the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series, where Trump commended the team’s resilience and star qualities. In an earlier visit in April, he welcomed the Dodgers to the White House, during which he made a pointed remark regarding California’s Democratic senators, Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, who were absent from the event.
“We have a couple senators here. I just don’t particularly like them, so I won’t introduce them,” Trump stated, highlighting the political tensions that have often surrounded his interactions with California lawmakers.
The recent victory marks the Dodgers as the second sports team to visit the White House since Trump resumed office, following the NHL’s Florida Panthers. The tradition of championship teams visiting the White House has seen a resurgence after many teams opted not to attend during Trump’s first term.
Political Context and Tensions
The Dodgers’ championship win comes in a politically charged environment, particularly following a deployment of thousands of National Guard troops to Los Angeles in June amid rising immigration protests. California Governor Gavin Newsom and the state’s attorney general have criticized the deployment as unlawful, adding another layer of complexity to the political landscape surrounding the Dodgers’ celebration.
As the Dodgers prepare for their visit to the White House, the intersection of sports, politics, and public sentiment remains at the forefront of the national conversation. Trump’s invitation to the team not only celebrates their athletic achievement but also underscores the ongoing dynamics of sports as a platform for political expression in America.
