King Charles to Remove Prince Andrew’s Last Honorary Rank

Former royal family member Prince Andrew is set to face significant repercussions as King Charles plans to strip him of his last honorary military title, according to John Healey, Britain’s Secretary of State for Defence. Healey confirmed on October 15, 2023, in an interview with Sky News, that the process to remove Andrew from this role is already underway. “We’ve seen Andrew surrender the military positions that he’s had,” Healey stated, adding that the king has indicated his desire to proceed with this removal.

This announcement follows Andrew’s earlier decision to step down from other military roles in 2022. His association with Epstein has overshadowed his military service, which includes active duty as a helicopter pilot during the Falklands War. Healey emphasized that this move is appropriate given the circumstances surrounding Andrew’s conduct.

King Charles’s intent to strip Andrew of his honorary vice admiral title reflects a broader effort to distance the royal family from past scandals. In a subsequent interview with the BBC, Healey reiterated the king’s position, stating, “This is a move that’s right… and we’re working on that at the moment.”

The former Duke of York, now 65 years old, is facing a future without royal titles. Following discussions with the royal family, he has been ordered to relinquish all titles, including his designation as the Duke of York. He will now be referred to simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, losing the title of His Royal Highness as well.

The fallout from these events has been compounded by a civil case brought against Andrew by Virginia Giuffre, an alleged victim of Epstein’s trafficking ring. Giuffre has publicly claimed that she was coerced into sexual encounters with Andrew when she was a teenager, allegations that he has consistently denied.

As part of this transition, Andrew has been given three months to vacate the Royal Lodge, where he currently resides with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. Both are expected to leave the property amidst the ongoing scrutiny of Andrew’s past actions.
