UPDATE: The Chicago Cubs have just secured a major league-high of three Gold Glove awards, celebrating exceptional defensive talent on the field. Awarded this year are Pete Crow-Armstrong, Ian Happ, and Nico Hoerner, marking a significant achievement for the franchise.

Crow-Armstrong, the All-Star center fielder, earned his first Gold Glove in what has been a breakout season, while Happ clinched his fourth consecutive award in left field. Hoerner, recognized for his skills at second base, takes home his second Gold Glove. This announcement, made by Rawlings earlier today, highlights the Cubs’ dominant defensive prowess.

The recognition is not just a Cubs affair; Kansas City, Boston, and San Francisco each had two Gold Glove winners. Notably, Bobby Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia from the Royals made history as the first shortstop-third baseman teammates to win the award in the same season since 2013. Witt, receiving his second consecutive Gold Glove, has become a standout player for Kansas City.

In a thrilling twist, Patrick Bailey and Logan Webb of the Giants are recognized as the first battery from the same team to win Gold Gloves in the same season since the Cardinals’ Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright in 2013. Bailey, marking his second straight win at catcher, has proven to be vital for San Francisco.

The Boston Red Sox also made headlines with right fielder Wilyer Abreu and center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela earning accolades. Abreu, 26, continues his defensive excellence with a repeat win, while 25-year-old Rafaela celebrates his first Gold Glove, adding to the excitement.

Among the four-time winners are New York Yankees pitcher Max Fried and Cleveland left fielder Steven Kwan, joining Happ in this elite group. Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson also secured his third Gold Glove, showcasing the competitive nature of the league.

The American League winners include Dillon Dingler (Detroit catcher), Marcus Semien (Texas second baseman), Mauricio Dubón (Houston utilityman), and Ty France (first baseman). Notably, Semien earned a $100,000 bonus for his achievement, while Kwan and Witt each received a $50,000 bonus, and Hayes was awarded $25,000.

Voting for the Gold Gloves involved team managers and up to six coaches, ensuring a fair selection process. Since 2013, the Society for American Baseball Research defensive index has played a crucial role in the voting, impacting approximately 25% of the total.

As fans celebrate these remarkable achievements, the Cubs’ triumphs underscore a season filled with defensive excellence, setting the stage for an exciting future. Stay tuned for more updates as the off-season progresses and players prepare for the next season of MLB action.
