The Roxborough Development Corporation and the Mitchell Street Phillbillies are organizing a food drive on November 16 from noon to 16:00 at the Roxborough Pocket Park, located at 6170 Ridge Avenue. This initiative, titled ‘Phillbillies Help Fill Bellies,’ aims to address the growing food insecurity faced by local families as the holiday season approaches.

In a joint statement, the organizers emphasized the urgent need for community support: “With recent impacts to SNAP benefits and food assistance, many local families are facing increased challenges this November — especially as the holidays approach. To help support our neighbors, the Mitchell Street Phillbillies are partnering with RDC to host ‘Phillbillies Help Fill Bellies’ — a food drive and free concert at Roxborough Pocket Park. Food is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring food donations, which will be distributed to various local organizations, including the Roxborough Church, Unity, Northern Children’s Services, and the North Light Community Center. The event will also feature live music from local artists, creating a festive atmosphere while supporting those in need.

A wide range of food and personal care items are sought for donation. Residents can contribute items such as dry and canned beans, canned vegetables, boxed meal kits, soap, toothpaste, tampons and pads, peanut butter or nut butters, shelf-stable milk, jam and jelly, rice, soup, canned tuna or chicken, cooking oils, pasta, condiments, canned tomatoes, cereal, and pancake mix and syrup.

The partnership between the Roxborough Development Corporation and the Mitchell Street Phillbillies exemplifies community solidarity in the face of economic challenges. As the impact of rising food costs continues to affect many households, initiatives like this food drive serve as a vital resource for those struggling to make ends meet.
