Empty Stocking Fund Gears Up for Holiday Giving in East Tennessee
As the holiday season approaches, the Empty Stocking Fund in East Tennessee is preparing to distribute 3,000 family meal boxes to local families in need. This initiative marks a continuation of the charity’s long-standing tradition of giving back, which has spanned over a century. As part of their efforts, the organization will be featured on the public affairs program, “East Tennessee Now,” where leaders will discuss the charity’s impact and how the community can contribute.
On October 26, Frank Murphy will interview two key board members of the Empty Stocking Fund: Joel Christopher, Executive Editor of Knox News, and Jennifer Dedman, Communities Editor. The segment will highlight the history of the nonprofit, which operates entirely on a volunteer basis without any overhead or employee salaries. This model enables them to maximize the impact of every donation received.
The Empty Stocking Fund’s mission has remained consistent since its inception in the early 1900s, focusing on assisting neighbors in need during the holiday season. This year, the meal boxes will contain ingredients for a festive holiday meal, along with essential staples to help families through the week.
Listeners can tune in to “East Tennessee Now,” which airs on several local stations including WJXB, WIMZ, WDKW, and WNFZ on Sunday mornings, or catch the podcast version of the show. The program serves as an opportunity for community members to learn about the organization’s ongoing efforts and how they can get involved.
While donations are especially welcome during the holiday season, the Empty Stocking Fund encourages contributions throughout the year. Those interested in supporting the cause can visit esfknox.org to make a donation. Each contribution helps ensure that families in East Tennessee receive much-needed support during the festive season, reinforcing the spirit of giving that has characterized the Empty Stocking Fund for over a century.
In a time when many families are facing challenges, the Empty Stocking Fund exemplifies the power of community collaboration. With the help of local partners and generous donations, the organization continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves.
