New Seafood Restaurant Oceania Fish Bar Set to Open in Walnut Creek
A new seafood restaurant, Oceania Fish Bar, is preparing to establish itself in downtown Walnut Creek, specifically at 1555 Bonanza St. This venture will occupy the previous location of the Walnut Creek Yacht Club, which closed its doors earlier this year. The initiative is spearheaded by siblings Mike, David, and Rolla Ghaben, who have deep roots in the local dining scene.
While the anticipated opening date for Oceania Fish Bar is set for 2027, construction is expected to commence next year, contingent upon city approval. The restaurant will present a seafood-centric menu, showcasing a variety of cooking techniques, reflecting the Ghaben family’s extensive culinary background.
Significant Renovations Planned for Historic Site
Plans for the new establishment call for a comprehensive renovation of the existing mid-century modern structure. The proposal includes the addition of 1,360 square feet of ground-floor space and an expansion of outdoor seating options. Furthermore, a new 1,179-square-foot second-floor corporate office is part of the redevelopment plan. All developments remain subject to city approval before any construction can commence.
The corner location has a rich history for the Ghaben family, having previously hosted several dining establishments such as Hubcaps, Broderick Roadhouse, and Lita. Given its location within Walnut Creek’s bustling downtown dining core, the site has been a restaurant for decades, making it an ideal setting for their latest venture. The area’s consistent foot traffic and established dining reputation contribute to its appeal.
Commitment to Seafood and Local Community
Oceania Fish Bar will focus exclusively on seafood, offering a diverse menu crafted around a fish bar format. Unlike many seafood restaurants, the menu will not be confined to a single regional style but will instead incorporate various preparation methods. Details regarding specific menu offerings have yet to be released.
The Ghaben family boasts over 40 years of experience in the local restaurant industry. Their portfolio includes notable establishments such as Original Mel’s, Batch and Brine, Broderick Roadhouse, Hubcaps, Lita, and World Famous Hotboys. The launch of Oceania Fish Bar underscores the family’s ongoing investment in Walnut Creek and their commitment to enhancing the local culinary landscape.
As the project progresses, residents and seafood enthusiasts alike are expected to keep a close eye on further developments regarding this exciting addition to Walnut Creek’s dining options.
