Big Bear Alpine Zoo Launches First Holiday Light Walk Nov. 6
UPDATE: The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is set to unveil its first-ever holiday light walk, Alpine Zoo Wild Lights, on November 6, 2023, featuring an impressive 1.5 million lights across six themed zones. This exciting new event promises to transform the zoo into a festive wonderland, perfect for those seeking fresh holiday experiences near Los Angeles.
Just days before the grand opening, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on November 5, marking the official start of this enchanting after-hours holiday event. Running from November 6 to January 4, the event will be open Wednesday through Sunday, with extended hours around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Tickets are priced at $20, with discounts for seniors, students, and veterans; children under two enjoy free admission. Proceeds will support the zoo’s crucial wildlife rehabilitation and conservation programs, in addition to the local Care For Big Bear sustainability initiative.
The light walk begins at the Wilderness Gateway, featuring a stunning 20-foot illuminated archway adorned with gold garland and mistletoe. Attendees will then stroll through the Mountain Glow Midway, where live music and carolers will perform under a canopy of twinkling string lights.
Guests can savor treats at the Village of Light & Moonridge Coffee Co. Holiday Café, serving cocoa, cider, and cocktails amidst oversized ornaments and cuddly teddy bears. The journey continues to the Spirit of Giving Grove, showcasing gold and white lights, and the Veterans Reflection Point, highlighted by red, white, and gold decor.
The festive experience culminates at Santa’s House & Stables, featuring an 11-foot illuminated sleigh near the mule deer exhibit.
“This is not just a celebration of the season; it’s a gathering place for our community,” emphasized Travis Scott, CEO of Visit Big Bear. “We’re supporting the animals that call this mountain home while fostering a sense of togetherness and holiday spirit.”
This debut event represents a remarkable opportunity to engage with local wildlife and support the zoo’s mission. With over 85 species, including bears, wolves, raptors, and big cats, the Big Bear Alpine Zoo offers a unique chance to connect with nature in a beautifully maintained environment.
What to watch for: As the event approaches, expect updates on ticket availability and special activities planned for the opening weekend. This festive initiative is sure to attract both locals and visitors, making it a highlight of the holiday season in the area. Don’t miss the chance to experience this magical light display that combines community spirit and wildlife conservation.
