Former Jets Star Nick Mangold Urgently Seeks Kidney Donor

URGENT UPDATE: Former Jets center Nick Mangold is reaching out for help after revealing he is in dire need of a kidney transplant. The 41-year-old NFL legend disclosed this life-changing news in an emotional letter shared on social media earlier today, prompting immediate concern from fans and supporters alike.
In his heartfelt message, Mangold detailed that he has been battling chronic kidney disease since 2006, the same year he was drafted by the Jets. He expressed that while he anticipated this moment, he did not expect it to arrive so soon. “After a rough summer, I’m undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, I do not have any family able to donate at this time, so this is why I’m reaching out to you, our NY Jets community.”
Mangold is specifically seeking a kidney donor with type O blood. He urged interested donors to visit the Kidney and Pancreatic Transplant Program of NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University and follow the instructions to initiate the donation process. Potential donors are asked to provide his full name, Nicholas Mangold, along with his birthday, January 13, 1984.
Mangold’s plea has resonated deeply within the football community, as he is celebrated for his impactful career with the Jets, where he played all 11 seasons. He was an instrumental part of the team that reached consecutive AFC Championship games and was honored with a place in the team’s ring of honor in 2022.
Despite the gravity of his situation, he remains optimistic. “While this has been a tough stretch,” Mangold stated, “I’m staying positive and focused on the path ahead. I’m looking forward to better days and getting back to full strength soon. I’ll see you all at MetLife Stadium and at The Shoe very soon.”
As the situation develops, fans and supporters are encouraged to share Mangold’s message widely to help find a suitable donor. His resilience and positive outlook amidst adversity is a testament to his character, and he continues to be a beloved figure in New York sports.
This urgent call for help highlights the critical need for organ donors and the impact one person can make in another’s life. As Mangold navigates this challenging chapter, the support from the Jets community could be pivotal in securing the help he desperately needs.
