Gold’s Gym Exits SoCal, Selling 23 Locations to EōS Fitness
URGENT UPDATE: Gold’s Gym is officially ending its iconic presence across Southern California, selling all 23 locations to EōS Fitness, effective October 29, 2023. The only exception is the original gym in Venice Beach, where the brand was founded nearly 60 years ago.
In a message to members, EōS Fitness confirmed the transition, assuring them of a “seamless” experience during the changeover. Members can continue accessing their gyms without interruption, as EōS integrates these former locations into its extensive network of over 200 gyms across seven states.
EōS Fitness emphasized its commitment to maintaining the high standards Gold’s Gym members expect. “Our priority is to make this transition as seamless as possible, ensuring your workouts stay uninterrupted while we continue to provide best-in-class gyms, innovative fitness and recovery options, pristine facilities, and the latest fitness gear,” the company stated.
According to WeHo Times, the decision to sell was described as a “carefully made decision” by Gold’s Gym SoCal, which noted that EōS was chosen to honor the legacy of the brand. The CEO of EōS Fitness, Rich Drengberg, has significant ties to Gold’s Gym, having spent over 15 years contributing to its growth earlier in his career.
New signage is already appearing at several former Gold’s locations. In Hollywood, a banner read: “Gold’s Gym SoCal has flexed its last rep. Welcome to EōS Fitness. Same sweat. New swagger,” as reported by WeHo Times.
While Gold’s Gym is stepping back from the regional scene, the Venice location—often referred to as the “Mecca of Bodybuilding”—will remain under the original ownership of Gold’s Gym. This location has been a cornerstone of Southern California’s fitness culture, attracting bodybuilders, athletes, and celebrities since its inception in 1965.
The sale marks a significant shift in the fitness landscape of Los Angeles, ending an era for a brand synonymous with the city’s gym culture. As EōS Fitness takes over, members are eager to see how the transition will affect their beloved workout spaces.
Stay tuned for updates on the integration process and for more details about changes at specific locations. As this story develops, the impact on the local fitness community will be closely monitored.
