Sigourney Weaver Questions Oscar’s Fate in New Ghostbusters Films
BREAKING: Sigourney Weaver has sparked a renewed conversation about the fate of Oscar, the son of her character Dana Barrett in the iconic Ghostbusters franchise. As she prepares to reprise her role as Kiri in the highly anticipated Avatar: Fire and Ash, Weaver expressed her curiosity about Oscar’s storyline during a recent interview.
In a discussion with io9, Weaver revealed that despite multiple Ghostbusters films released since the original, including 2016’s Ghostbusters: Answer the Call and 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Oscar’s fate remains a mystery. “You know, when we made those films in the ’80s, sequels still were not cool,” Weaver remarked. “And so we took a big chance making two.”
The actress hinted that director Jason Reitman might have considered Oscar’s narrative in the new direction of the franchise. “I’m sure he has thought about that. And it wouldn’t surprise me if that happened. That would be fun,” she stated, suggesting a potential future appearance for Oscar.
In a lighthearted moment, Weaver joked about the twins who portrayed Oscar, saying, “Maybe both the twins who played [the character] could be in it. One was very happy on the set, and the other one didn’t like it.” This playful comment reflects the enduring legacy of the franchise and the nostalgia surrounding it.
Weaver’s brief appearance in the end credits of Ghostbusters: Afterlife reaffirmed her character’s friendship with Bill Murray‘s Peter Venkman, but it did not address the long-standing question regarding Oscar’s father. Fans have been left wondering if any details will emerge in future installments.
As Weaver gears up for the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, 2024, audiences are eager for updates. The film promises to delve deeper into her character, Kiri, while leaving many questions unanswered about Oscar.
Additionally, reports indicate that an animated feature film and a Netflix animated series related to Ghostbusters are in development. However, there have been few updates on these projects, leaving fans speculating about potential storylines and character arcs.
The conversation around Oscar is not just about nostalgia; it highlights the impact of legacy characters in modern cinema. As franchises evolve, the fanbase’s desire for closure on beloved storylines becomes increasingly important.
As we await more information on both Ghostbusters and Avatar, one thing is clear: Sigourney Weaver’s curiosity about Oscar resonates with fans, and the hope for a resolution remains alive. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting developments in the coming weeks.
