Tragic Death of Renee Biran, 45-Stone Model, at 56
UPDATE: The tragic death of former plus-sized model Renee Biran, who weighed over 631 lbs, has shocked the community and raised urgent discussions about health risks associated with extreme obesity. Biran passed away on May 14, 2021, at the age of 56, following a long battle with severe health complications.
Biran, who became known as a ‘fat fetish’ model, gained notoriety for her appearances on the reality TV series My 600lb Life. Earlier in her life, she faced a near-fatal health crisis when she collapsed while en route to a weight loss clinic. In a distressing moment captured on camera, she conveyed to her husband, “I feel like I can’t breathe right… I want to see a doctor that can put some oxygen in my body. I don’t want to die in this car.”
After her collapse, doctors confirmed that her organs were shutting down, prompting a hospitalization that saved her life. Following intensive care, Biran managed to shed an impressive 30 stone over the next few years. However, despite this weight loss, she struggled to maintain her health, failing to adhere to prescribed exercise regimens.
Biran’s journey included confronting her traumatic past, revealing experiences of abuse that contributed to her weight challenges. Through psychotherapy, she made significant strides, ultimately qualifying for gastric sleeve surgery, which allowed her to drop to 15 stone, marking a remarkable transformation.
Despite her efforts, Biran developed Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare autoimmune condition that causes severe neurological symptoms. This setback forced her into a nursing home, where she ultimately succumbed to her health issues.
The news of Biran’s passing has sparked widespread sympathy and discussions about the mental and physical health challenges faced by individuals dealing with extreme obesity. Advocates are calling for greater awareness and understanding of the complexities surrounding weight loss and health.
As the story continues to unfold, health professionals emphasize the importance of addressing both physical and psychological factors in weight management. Biran’s legacy serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for support and resources for those struggling with similar battles.
