UPDATE: Just days before Halloween, Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory has urgently recalled two of its popular candy bars due to a serious risk of life-threatening allergens. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the recall on October 24, highlighting the potential presence of undeclared nuts in the products.

The affected items include the full-size Peanut Butter Crush bars, which may contain undeclared cashews, and the Ca$hew Cow bars, suspected of containing undeclared peanuts. This alarming discovery poses a significant health risk for individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to these nuts, potentially leading to serious or even life-threatening reactions.

Officials from Zingerman’s revealed that the candy bars were distributed across retailers in Michigan and New York. The Peanut Butter Crush bars are packaged in eye-catching yellow and purple boxes marked with Lot #174250. In contrast, the Ca$hew Cow bars come in light blue and yellow boxes, also labeled with the same lot number.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to cashews or peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products,” Zingerman’s stated.

Fortunately, Zingerman’s has confirmed that there have been no reported illnesses related to this recall. The company took swift action after discovering that the Peanut Butter Crush bars were mistakenly packaged without proper allergen warnings regarding cashew content. Similarly, the Ca$hew Cow bars were found to have misleading packaging that did not disclose the presence of peanuts.

The recall comes at a particularly critical time, just one week before Halloween, when candy consumption spikes. The potential for confusion during this festive season could endanger those with nut allergies, making the recall even more urgent.

Following an internal investigation, Zingerman’s attributed the issue to a temporary breakdown in their production and packaging processes. The company has assured consumers that measures have been implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.

Consumers who have purchased either of the recalled candy bars are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. This recall serves as a crucial reminder for all candy lovers, especially during this high-consumption period.

Stay informed and cautious. It’s vital for those with nut allergies to check their candy supplies thoroughly this Halloween. The situation is developing, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
