Beloved Music Teacher Suzanne R. Rubincam Passes at 84
Suzanne R. Rubincam, a cherished resident of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Redondo Beach at the age of 84. Known for her warmth and passion for music, Suzanne’s legacy lives on through her family and the countless students she inspired throughout her teaching career.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Suzanne was raised in Evanston, Illinois. She attended Northwestern University, where she captured the heart of her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr., at her Debutante Ball. The couple married and eventually moved to California, spending over five decades in their Lunada Bay neighborhood. They were inseparable, known for their joyful presence at social gatherings, often taking to the dance floor with exuberance.
Suzanne’s dedication to education was evident during her tenure at Rolling Hills Country Day School. As a music teacher, she created elaborate plays that showcased her students’ talents and nurtured their love for music. Her influence reached beyond the classroom, igniting a passion for the arts in countless children.
Known affectionately by various names including “Sue,” “Grammy,” and “Ladybug Mom,” Suzanne was deeply loved by her family. She is survived by her son, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam and his wife Denise, along with her daughter, Amy Rubincam Steadman and her husband Will. Her three granddaughters—Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman—were a source of immense joy in her life.
Suzanne’s passions extended beyond music. She spent her summers enjoying time with friends at the Portuguese Bend Club, where they would gather on the beach. During the cooler months, she engaged in needlepoint, creating intricate art pieces that she lovingly gifted. A talented pianist, she also took great pride in her rose garden, which flourished under her care.
Her family and friends remember her infectious smile and her exceptional lemon meringue pie. The bond she shared with Paul was evident to all, and they were often seen dancing together, a sight that will be fondly remembered by those who knew them.
In keeping with Suzanne’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Instead, her family encourages donations to organizations dedicated to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease in lieu of flowers. Messages and memories can be shared through the Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions website at www.LAfuneral.com.
