URGENT UPDATE: After more than four decades, police have identified a newborn boy found dead at Buckeye Park in San Bruno, California, on November 11, 1981. The San Bruno Police Department is now asking for the public’s help as the investigation into this chilling cold case continues.

Authorities announced this breakthrough on Tuesday, revealing that the baby’s family was identified through advanced forensic genealogy, a newly available investigative technology. The police collaborated with the Texas Department of Public Safety and specialized forensic labs to achieve this milestone.

Despite this significant step forward, police have not disclosed the identities of the infant’s parents. “This identification represents a major step forward in the case and has renewed efforts to bring this case to justice,” the department stated in a post on social media.

The tragic discovery occurred when the newborn was found inside a garbage can at Buckeye Park around 4 p.m. on that fateful day in 1981. Initial investigations revealed that the infant had been dead for only a few hours and was a victim of strangulation and severe head injuries. Law enforcement determined he had likely been placed in the receptacle sometime after 11 a.m. that day.

Investigators at the time noted the infant had Type O-positive blood and discovered both reddish-brown human hair and black dog hair on the sock used to strangle him. Despite exhaustive efforts, authorities could not determine the child’s identity or locate the individual(s) responsible for this heartbreaking crime.

“Despite an exhaustive investigation at the time,” police stated, “investigators were unable to determine the child’s identity or identify the person(s) responsible for the death.”

Now, with new leads emerging from forensic advancements, the San Bruno Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward. The department can be contacted at 650-616-7100 or via email at [email protected].

This development not only sheds light on a decades-old mystery but also raises questions about justice for the innocent life lost. The public’s role could be crucial in solving this tragic case. Stay tuned for further updates as the investigation progresses.
