Maksim Chmerkovskiy Confirms DWTS Return is Off the Table
Maksim Chmerkovskiy, a prominent figure in the dance world, has announced that he will not be returning to Dancing with the Stars (DWTS). In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Chmerkovskiy discussed his future and the reasons behind his decision to step away from the popular dance competition permanently.
Chmerkovskiy has a long history with DWTS, participating in multiple seasons and taking breaks for various personal milestones, including the birth of his first child. Despite the possibility of a comeback, he now believes that his time on the show has come to an end. “I think the boat has sailed. I think my comeback is in the distant past,” he stated during the interview.
Chmerkovskiy Reflects on His Dance Journey
While he remains passionate about dance, Chmerkovskiy expressed uncertainty about his future direction. “I’m looking forward to so much more dancing out of my body,” he mentioned, emphasizing his commitment to maintaining his skills over the past 25 years. He indicated a desire to explore new creative avenues rather than return to the competitive format of DWTS, stating, “Dancing With the Stars is a moving entity, and it just needs to move.”
Chmerkovskiy further elaborated on his reluctance to return to the show, noting, “I wouldn’t want to. I just don’t think there would be space for me, especially in the format that it is today.” He expressed concerns about the increasing role of social media in the competition and his discomfort with the current landscape. “I can’t fathom doing so much social media, and without it, how do you win?” he questioned.
A Different Chapter Ahead
In a previous interview with MassLive in 2018, Chmerkovskiy had already hinted at his departure from the show. He explained that he could no longer commit to the demands of being a professional dancer on a show that requires 100% dedication. “I am at a different point in my life,” he shared, underscoring the changes in his personal and professional priorities.
As Chmerkovskiy moves forward, he aims to embrace new opportunities in dance while leaving behind the competitive pressures of reality television. His reflections highlight a transition from a storied career on DWTS to exploring the next phase of his artistic journey, focusing on creativity rather than competition.
