Fans filled the Paycom Center, bringing unmatched energy as the defending champions celebrated their championship ring ceremony and raised the banner into the rafters, marking a historic moment for the franchise.
The atmosphere was palpable as Thunder fans eagerly anticipated the game, with many remarking on the intensity that rivaled playoff games. “I feel great, man, energy is awesome,” said fan Grayson Baker. “Just like game seven in the finals. There was no break. Feels like we’re right back.”
Fans eagerly arrived at the venue, ensuring they were in their seats for the ceremony. “When that banner goes up, a tear might drop, you never know,” Baker added, highlighting the emotional significance of the night. They hurried to grab food and drinks, excitedly checking out the latest merchandise before the game began.
Halle Gotico, another devoted fan, expressed her joy, saying, “I actually made this jersey during the playoff series, so I’m super happy to be here.” The anticipation in the arena was reminiscent of a playoff atmosphere, a testament to what “Loud City” represents.
As defending NBA champions, the Thunder faced heightened expectations from fans and opponents alike. “There is added pressure as defending NBA champs, because everyone is looking to take your spot at the top,” Baker noted. The emotional connection between the fans and the team was clear, with Irwin Wyatt stating, “I got a lot of people who live in a lot of other places, and I got to talk a lot of trash.” The sense of community and pride surged throughout the arena, with every cheer echoing the championship spirit.
The Thunder’s opening night victory not only marked the start of the new season but also solidified the team’s legacy as champions in front of their passionate fanbase.
