Clippers Aim to End Slump Against Lakers After Fifth Loss
The Los Angeles Clippers suffered their fifth consecutive defeat, falling 122-101 to the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 14, 2023. With this latest loss, the Clippers have now experienced a troubling stretch, winning only one of their last 11 games. The team is keen to turn things around as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Lakers at the Intuit Dome on December 16, 2023.
The match against the Thunder highlighted some persistent issues for the Clippers, including a staggering 28 turnovers. The absence of star player James Harden, sidelined due to a calf injury, further compounded their challenges. Head Coach Tyronn Lue remains optimistic despite the team’s struggles, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive mindset. “Gotta be better. The season’s not over,” Lue stated after the game. “…we’re four games out of the Play-In. That’s gotta be our mindset going forward.”
Lue pointed out that the Clippers have shown competitiveness in recent games, despite their losses. In four of their last five outings, they remained within striking distance, suggesting that improvement is possible. “We have to play better. We gotta be able to close out games and finish them,” he acknowledged. The Clippers have not completed a solid 48-minute performance since their victory over the Atlanta Hawks on December 3, 2023.
With a record of 6-21, the Clippers find themselves five games behind the Play-In tournament spots. Harden, who leads the team with an average of 26 points and 8.1 assists per game, practiced on December 10 but missed the trip to Oklahoma City. His status for the upcoming game against the Lakers remains uncertain.
The Lakers, currently holding a record of 19-7, present a formidable challenge. Stars like LeBron James and Luka Doncic will be looking to capitalize on the Clippers’ vulnerabilities. After a disappointing performance against the Memphis Grizzlies, where fans openly expressed their frustration, the Clippers are under pressure to deliver a better showing in front of their home crowd.
The upcoming game at the Intuit Dome is set for 19:30 local time and will be broadcast on various platforms, including FDSN SoCal and Spectrum SportsNet. As the Clippers seek to shake off their slump, the stakes could not be higher as they strive to avoid finishing the weekend at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.
