NYC Mayor Eric Adams Suggests Snowstorm is Perfect for “Baby Making”
As New York City grappled with a significant snowstorm, outgoing Mayor Eric Adams made headlines with an unconventional suggestion for residents seeking ways to spend their time indoors. During an interview with ABC7NY, he humorously proposed that the storm presented a unique opportunity for “baby making.” He encouraged New Yorkers to “stay home” and engage in what he referred to as a day for “Netflix and chill,” aiming to “improve the population.”
In a lighthearted moment, Adams stated, “Stay home, this is a good baby-making day. We wanna improve the population, you know?” When asked whether this could lead to a “baby boom” in the spring, he reiterated, “We want to improve the population.” The mayor’s comments drew laughter on social media, with users responding with quips like, “Government PSA: It’s cuddle weather” and “Senior spring hit already, huh?”
Despite the jovial tone, the mayor also acknowledged the efforts of New York City’s emergency services. The storm, which had been forecasted to bring nearly 11 inches of snow, ultimately delivered about 4 inches. By 6 a.m., city plows had cleared at least one path on all major streets, a feat Adams praised as “a really great job.”
Adams’ remarks occurred just days before he completes his term, as Zohran Mamdani prepares to take office as the new mayor on January 1, 2024. In a flurry of activity, Adams appointed Mark Guerra as the new commissioner of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), a move many view as an attempt to leave a lasting legacy. Adams remarked, “Under our administration, keeping New Yorkers safe and protected has always been our North Star,” endorsing Guerra as someone who meets the high standards necessary for public safety leadership.
In response to the appointment, Mamdani did not seem fazed, stating that Adams was “free to continue to be the mayor until the end of this year and make decisions as such.” He announced his own selection for the FDNY commissioner, Lillian Bonsignore, asserting that her leadership would not be overshadowed by the outgoing administration’s choices.
Adams’ tenure has not been without controversy, and his final days as mayor are marked by a mix of humor and governance. As New Yorkers dig out from the snow, they are reminded of the outgoing mayor’s playful take on a winter storm, even as he navigates the complexities of a transition to new leadership.
